2 GESCOM SIM: Advanced tactical communications simulator

GESCOM-SIM is a state-of-the-art software system designed for the realistic simulation of communications in tactical environments. Its main objective is to reproduce with high fidelity the operational conditions experienced by radio operators in real-world scenarios, enabling the training, evaluation and optimisation of communication procedures.

The system simulates both internal communications between members of a unit (intercom) and external communications via tactical radios on different bands (HF, VHF and UHF), replicating real-world behaviours such as channel usage, push-to-talk (PTT) mode and signal degradation.

GESCOM-SIM is based on a modular architecture comprising:

  • A Supervisor node, which acts as the central hub of the simulation and controls the scenario.
  • Multiple Participant nodes, which represent units or vehicles within the simulated environment.
  • Voice clients (Voice Manager) that allow users to interact via real audio.
  • A web-based remote control system, which visually replicates real radio equipment for an immersive experience.

The system allows for the creation of complex scenarios involving multiple networked users, whilst also integrating with external simulators (such as VBS or Steel Beasts) via standard protocols. This enables geographically distributed joint exercises, enhancing realism and training capabilities.

Thanks to its ability to model real-world signal propagation and degradation conditions, GESCOM-SIM offers a unique tool for operator training, training in tactical procedures and the validation of communications systems in controlled environments.
